A new multi-livestock & youth development facility will support our youth for years to come.

Impact on youth

Approximately 1,275 Shelby County youth are actively engaged in 4-H and FFA annually. This coupled with on average 80,000 visitors to the Shelby County Fairgrounds during the week of fair and throughout the year at various events, allows maximum exposure and engagement of those individuals who will interact with this new multi-livestock complex addition to the Shelby County Fairgrounds.

4-H and FFA provide students with countless opportunities to develop their career readiness skills through over 200 different projects and provide students the autonomy to "create their own" experiences with self-determined projects to follow their passions and interests.

Impact on County

4-H and FFA focuses on developing career readiness skills through workforce development. Whether it is a traditional livestock project or a special interest welding project, students are learning crucial skills through experiential learning in these programs that will prove beneficial to future employers. The 4-H and FFA programs strive to improve their communities through service and volunteerism. These primary principles and the skills developed in these programs make 4-H and FFA alumni ideal employees for businesses in Shelby and its surrounding counties.

4-H

There is a network of over 6 million current 4-H members nationwide and 650 in Shelby County. 4-H empowers these individuals and develops their technical, leadership and interpersonal skills, producing optimal employees and business owners in the future.

FFA

There is a network of nearly one million current FFA members nationwide and over 625 in Shelby County. FFA develops students' potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.

Agricultural Products

With Shelby County ranking 8th in Ohio for total market value of agricultural products sold and 49.4% of county employment in the manufacturing sector - the largest per capita in the state of Ohio - the need for qualified individuals with an agricultural background and the ability to apply hands-on skills is more important than ever.

Strong Roots

Furthermore, with an unemployment rate of 2.9% (1% less than the national average) and Sidney-Shelby being nationally ranked #3 in 2022 as a Top 100 U.S. Micropolitan by Site Selection Magazine, alumni of these organizations are finding more and more reasons to remain in the county or surrounding counties to pursue career ambitions.
